History: | The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) was created as a central department in its own right on 29 May 2002, to bring together key responsibilities for regional and local government, fire, housing, planning and regeneration, social exclusion, and neighbourhood renewal. The Office took on responsibility for policy areas from both the Department for Transport, Local Government and the Regions (DTLR) and the Cabinet Office, and also responsibility for transport issues not undertaken by the Department for Transport (DfT). From May 2006, the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) was created as the successor department to the ODPM. |
