Details of SC 8/150/7465
Reference: SC 8/150/7465
Description:
Petitioners: Abbot and convent of Westminster.
Addressees: King and council.
Nature of request: The Abbot and convent of Westminster state that they petitioned parliament in the King's first year, requesting £8 which they used to receive as a tithe from the farm of Droitwich, which had been withheld from them from 5 March, 11 Edward II [1318], and also that they might have an allowance for the arrears of this rent in the debts which they owed the King; and this was granted and they had writs to the Exchequer to allow them the arrears. However, they have not been able to have the £8 since then, and request a remedy.
Nature of endorsement: The charter is to be examined in Chancery, and, when the justices and others of the King's council, justice is further to be done to the Abbot.
Places mentioned: Westminster; Droitwich, [Worcestershire]; London.
People mentioned: Edward [II], King of England; Isabella [of France], Queen of England.
Note: From the mention of the parliament in the King's first year, this petition would seem to date from 1328 or shortly afterwards.
Date: [c. 1328]
