History: The Military Train (sometimes referred to as Military Train and Horse Transport) was raised under Royal Warrant of 14 August 1856, with a view to the more permanent formation of a Land Transport Corps for service at home and in the field. The Corps was formed by volunteers from the Land Transport Corps and Regiments of the Line. On 1 April 1870 the Military Train was merged in the Army Service Corps.
