History: 1870: on 1 Apr 1870, in consequence of the formation of the Control Department, the Military Train, Commissariat Staff Corps, and Military Store Staff Corps were discontinued as independent corps, and a new corps styled 'The Army Service Corps' raised, consisting in the first instance of volunteers from the disbanded corps. 1870-1881: Army Service Corps. 1881: in Aug 1881, the designation of the companies of the Army Service Corps employed on commissariat and transport duties was altered to 'The Commissariat and Transport Corps', and the designation of the companies of the Army Service Corps employed on ordnance store duties was altered to 'The Ordnance Store Corps'.
