| History: | The Ministry of National Insurance was established in November 1944 following the Ministry of National Insurance Act 1944, and was largely the product of the report of the Beveridge Committee on Social Insurance and Allied Services appointed in June 1941. The new ministry continued the preparation of legislation and the administrative organisation necessary for the introduction of comprehensive schemes of national insurance until August 1953 when it merged with the Ministry of Pensions to become the Ministry of Pensions and National Insurance. |
