Administrative / biographical background: |
Regulations under the National Insurance Act 1946, provided for adjustment to benefit payable to, or in respect of, any person in receipt of a pension or allowance (other than family allowances) from public funds or undergoing medical or other treatment as a hospital in-patient. Payment of sickness benefit was suspended when a recipient was undergoing treatment as an in-patient in a hospital or similar institution. Amendments have been made to the regulations at various times to account for anomalies arising from changes in social circumstances, such as dependent children over school age, married women in full time employment, divorce and cohabitation, and from reciprocal agreements with other countries. |
