Details of SC 8/21/1044
Reference: SC 8/21/1044
Description:
Petitioners: Walter Sibile.
Name(s): Sibile, Walter
Addressees: King and lords in parliament.
Nature of request: Walter Sibile states that a lawsuit between him and his tenants of Landwade and William Coggeshale and Nicholas Twyford and their tenants of Exning, which has been pending in parliament from the ninth year of the present king's reign to the fifteenth, and which has ruined him, was finally in the fifteenth year, after the death of Nicholas, put to the arbitration of the Bishop of London, Bishop of Ely and Richard Lescrop. This arbitration has not yet taken place, and Walter requests writs to William Coggeshale's general attorneys, to appear before the arbiters, and that the arbiters proceed to arbitration as quickly as possible.
Nature of endorsement: It is agreed and assented in parliament that writs should be sent to William Coggeshale's general attorneys, to appear before the arbiters mentioned in the petition, on the days and at the places to be assigned to them by the arbiters, and also that writs should be sent to the said arbiters to proceed to their arbitration and decision as swiftly as they reasonably can.
Places mentioned: Landwade, [Cambridgeshire]; Exning, [Suffolk].
People mentioned: William Coggeshale, knight; Nicholas Twyford, knight; [Robert Braybrooke], Bishop of London; [John Fordham] Bishop of Ely; Richard Lescrop (Scrope).
Note: The arbitration mentioned in this petition was decided at the parliament held at Westminster in November 1391, and CCR 1392-6 p.212 is dated at Westminster, 13 May 1394. It mentions a decision at the last parliament at Westminster, which would be that held in January 1394: this petition would then have been presented to that parliament.
