Book of constats and quietus for circuit 6 (Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Derby and Cheshire).Constats are copies of other documents passing through the auditors' hands as part of the accounting process such as views and declarations of receivers' and ministers' accounts as well as 'supers', that is notes of over due balances on these accounts.Includes a pre Restoration entry book of quietus. The 'quietus' are notes to the effect that the accounts of particular crown officers are quit. They are in the form of a state of account, showing the charge and discharge of the accountant with the total due to the Crown, followed by text written diagonally across the page setting out the debt, any allowances and payments and concluding that the accountant is quit. These are usually in English after 1732. |
