Title: Office of the Auditors of Land Revenue and predecessors: Miscellaneous Books
Description:

The core of this miscellaneous series is made up of volumes of the auditors of land revenue created as part of their role in the administration of the crown lands from 1554 to 1832, although other areas of their responsibility, assessed taxes in the eighteenth century for example, are also represented. These volumes include various series of entry books, receivers' rentals, general surveys and rentals, and catalogues of records.

There are also sub-series of the records of other bodies with a role in the administration of crown lands in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, including:

  • Entry books of particulars of the Elizabethan commissioners for the sale of Crown lands and of the Jacobean commissioners for defective titles.
  • Parliamentary surveys taken under the acts of 1649 and 1650 for the sale of the Crown lands and fee-farm rents kept by the Registrar to the trustees for the sale of the Crown lands.
  • Minute books of the Council of Catherine of Braganza, consort to Charles II, and entry books of the grants of her jointure, warrants and contracts, and leases, etc, and rentals.
  • Accounts of expenditure and receipts of Sir Hugh Myddleton relating to the building of the New River.
  • Inventories of the goods of Westminster and Syon abbey; the possessions of sixteenth century traitors; the wardrobes and jewels of Elizabeth I and Anne of Denmark, consort of James I; and the goods of Charles I.
