Up to 1975, the Finance Division of the Department of Health and Social Security was known as the Accountant General's Division - and operated under the Under-Secretary for Finance and Accountant General (Health). From 1976, The Accountant General's Division became known as the Finance Division (Health and Personal Social Services) and operated alongside the Finance Division (Social Security), which had been established in 1975. This latter division operated under Under-Secretary for Finance and Accountant General (Social Security) and reported directly to the Second Permanent Secretary for the Department. In 1988, when the Department split into two separate entities, the division was restructured under the Social Security Policy Group. In 1983, the Finance Divisions of the Department of Health and Social Security were reconstituted as the Finance Group, which consisted of 3 divisions: Finance Division (Health and Personal Social Services); Finance Division (Social Security); Statistics and Research Division. The Group also included the Office of the Economic Advisers. In 1987, the Health Division (Health and Personal Social Services) was renamed the Directorate of Health Authority Finance, with two separate Finance Divisions and a Directorate of Financial Management. In 1988, after the Department was split into two, the Department of Health, areas responsible for financial policy and operations (social security) were distributed between the Social Security Policy Group, the Social Security Operations Group, and the Regional Directorate within the Department of Social Security. |
