Administrative / biographical background:

The Finance Division (Social Security) consisted of 4 branches, who were responsible for the following:

  • Financial Policy (Branch 1);
  • Financial aspects of contributions policy and Public Expenditure Survey-costings (Branch 2);
  • National Insurance Fund, Parliamentary Estimates and Vote Accounts and departmental administration costs (Branch 3, North Fyde);
  • Internal Audit (Branch 4).

The Division also consisted of the Operational Research Service (OPS), which was responsible for researching and providing information/analysis on health, social security, and personal social service subjects.
