Administrative / biographical background:

The Fiscal and Monetary Policy Directorate covered the following functions: economic prospects; debt and foreign exchange reserves management and analysis; Royal Mint trading fund and coinage policy; management and recruitment to the Government Economic Service; fiscal and macroeconomic policy; economic briefing and analysis; and inflation and monetary policy.

Fiscal and Monetary Policy (as a sector) only existed during 1994. It was rapidly replaced and its functions transferred in 1995 to a new Macroeconomic Policies and Prospects Directorate which continued to 1998.
