Administrative / biographical background:

The Monetary Group had previously existed under the Public Finance (sector) from 1986 and continued under the Fiscal and Monetary Policy (directorate) for 1994. In 1995 it was abolished and its functions were subsumed by the new Macroeconomic Policies and Prospects Directorate.

The Monetary and Exchange Rate Policy Analysis Division was created in 1986. The functions were transferred from the Balance of Payment Division which had existed previously under the External Finance Group and thereunder the Overseas Finance (sector) to 1985. In 1993 it briefly changed its name to the Monetary Policy and Exchange Rate and Funding Division under the Public Finance (sector) and there under the Monetary Group. In 1994 it briefly existed under the Fiscal and Monetary Policy (sector) and thereunder the Monetary Policy Group. In 1995, it was abolished and its functions subsumed by the Debt and Reserves Management (division) under a new shallower organisational structure; the Macroeconomic Policies and Prospects Directorate.
