Title: Letter from John Baker of Clatterford, Rector of Carisbrooke, to Sir John Oglander and Sir Edward Denys, deputy Lieutenants of I.W
Description:

Says that he has heard from his son, James Rootkly and Mr. Wellshaw that they wish him to resign the living of St. Nicholas in the Castle of Carisbrooke, which he is very ready to do and hopes that Mr. Willshaw may be appointed as his successor and that rather because he is not only a man unbenificed and a fellow labourer with me in my age, but is also one that hath relations (by reason of his marriage) unto many of our Island and behaveth himself very civilly, modestly and religiously.

[Marriage license, John Willsheire (clerk) of Bourne, Sussex and Martha Searle, spinster, of Newport, at Godshill 12 July 1625]
