Administrative / biographical background: |
Prior to October 1964, Planning Division 11 of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government was responsible for general questions on land, prices, land compensation and land transactions (except transactions under housing, water and public open space legislation); policy questions on terms of disposal by government departments; Landlord and Tenant Act 1954; and planning blight. When the Ministry of Land and Natural Resources was created in 1964 these responsibilities were split between the two Ministries. The Ministry of Land and Natural Resources, Land Commission (Policy) Division had responsibility for general questions on land prices and all compensation for compulsory purchase of interests in land (with the exception of the special provisions relating to compensation for slum clearance which remained with the Ministry of Housing and Local Government). The Land Commission (Policy) Division also had a general responsibility for the compensation to be paid in blight cases under the Planning Acts. Responsibility for compensation for planning restrictions eg, compensation for revocation and discontinuance of use orders and individual blight notice appeals, remained with the Ministry of Housing and Local Government. The Land Commission (Policy) Division ceased to exist in 1967 when the Ministry of Land and Natrual Resources was wound up. |
