Prior to the creation of the Ministry of Land and Natural Resources in 1964 responsibility for natural resources planning rested with the Land Use Division of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. This work was then transferred to the Natural Resources Planning Unit of the Ministry of Land and Natural Resources on its creation in 1965. The Natural Resources Planning Unit had responsibility for natural resources planning, representation of the Ministry on regional economic planning boards and the Natural Resources Advisory Committee and natural resources research. The Unit also dealt with the Ministry's responsibilities for water resources and the Water Resources Board. |
