Details of SC 8/329/E901
Reference: SC 8/329/E901
Description:
Petitioners: Maud de Detlyngg (Detling), widow of William de Detling.
Name(s): de Detlyngg (Detling), Maud
Addressees: King and council.
Nature of request: Detlyng requests that grace and right are done to her as she brought a writ of dower unde nichil habet against John de [Sumery] and his mother Agnes for the manor of Rugeley, formerly held by her late husband, but the justices would not give judgment due to the interests of the queen.
Nature of endorsement: He should come into Chancery and say when the recognizance was made, and let the rolls be examined.
Places mentioned: Rugeley, Staffordshire.
People mentioned: John de [Sumery]; Agnes [de Sumery], mother of John de Sumery; Hugh de Cressyngham (Cressingham)
Note: The petition is dated to 1290-1299 as it makes reference to the queen who is dead and would seem to refer to Eleanor of Castile, and before Edward I remarried in 1299. It is possible that it refers explicitly to the queen who is dead to distinguish the late queen from Edward I's second wife Margaret of France, so that the petition's date could be 1299-1307, though this seems perhaps unlikely.
Date: [1290-1299]
