The Development Plans and Regional Policy (DPRP) Directorate was created in 1977, following the amalgamation of the Development Plans and Regional Strategies Directorate (1975-1977) and Division 1 of the Planning, Regional and Minerals Directorate (1974-1977). The Development Plans and Regional Strategies Directorate had itself taken over the responsibilities of the Planning Development Plans System Division (1973-1975). The directorate was responsible for a strategic framework for planning, at both a regional and national level. It was also responsible for the Department of the Environment's interest in regional affairs other than the regional strategic framework, such as the EEC Regional Development Fund and dispersal of government establishments. The directorate was in existence until 1983 when it was renamed the Regional Policy and Development Directorate. |
