One meeting of the Provisional Industrial Reformatory Schools Committee in February 1889 is minuted with Standing Committee - see the General Purposes Committee (originally known as the Standing Committee) LCC/MIN/6257.

 

The minutes for Jan-Feb 1904 are bound in the same volume as the subsequent minutes of the Mayford Management Committee - see CH/D/MAY/2/1.

 

The minutes of the Mayford Subcommittee are bound in with those of the main committee.

Administrative / biographical background:

This Committee was appointed in 1889 and was responsible for the two industrial schools at Feltham and Mayford (Woking) taken over from the Middlesex and Surrey Justices.

 

When in 1904, the Council became an education authority, the Committee was discontinued and the two industrial schools and the industrial and truant schools of the former School Board for London were placed under the control of the Special Schools Sub-committee of the Education Committee. In 1948 these responsibilities passed to the Children's Committee.

 

Feltham Industrial School was bought by the Prison Commissioners in 1910 and became a borstal
