Administrative / biographical background:

The HLRS was founded on 12 May 1958 to campaign for the decriminalisation of homosexuality following the recommendations of the Wolfenden Report. For an explanation of AG's relationship with the HLRS see the organisation entry for Grey Papers (HCA/GREY) and for a fuller description of the Society and its relations with the Albany Trust see the organisation entry for the AT (HCA/ALBANY TRUST). The HLRS was most active in the period 1965-1967 when the Sexual Offences Bill was passing through the Houses of Parliament. In March 1970 it was reconstituted as the Sexual Law Reform Society (so all material post-March 1970 is for the SLRS). Further related material can be found in the HLRS and SLRS sections of the AT papers (HCA/ALBANY TRUST/1-2).
