History: | In 1998 the National Council for Educational Technology was reconstituted as British Educational Communications and Technology Agency (Becta) as the government's lead agency for information and communications technology (ICT) in education, covering the UK. Its role is to ensure that technology is used at its best in the British education system and it is now the UK government agency (a non-departmental public body) which supports all UK education departments in their strategic ICT developments. The word 'Becta' has become the proper name for the organisation having previously been its acronym. |
