Date: 1992-2002
History: Established in July 1992 under the Local Government Act 1992 and inherited the functions of the Local Government Boundary Commission for England: to review the structure of local government in the English shire counties to determine whether the then two-tier structure should be replaced by a structure of all purpose unitary authorities; and to review boundary and electoral arrangements throughout England; and to make recommendations accordingly to the Secretary of State. The functions of the Commission were transferred to the Electoral Commission on 1 April 2002.
