History: | Formed in 1988 by a merger of the Development Commission and the Council for Small Industries in Rural Areas. It had responsibility for advising the government on economic/social matters affecting rural areas. In April 1999 it merged with the Countryside Commission to form the Countryside Agency, although there was a residual Rural Development Commission in existence until June 2000. |
