History: Ambrose Rookwood, a member of the Roman Catholic gentry, was brought into the Gunpowder Plot in September 1605 because of his wealth and his renowned stable of horses, which would assist the projected Midlands rebellion which would follow the destruction of Parliament. Rookwood was hanged, drawn and quartered in Old Palace Yard, Westminster, on 31 January 1606.
