Content:
Folios 652-653. Letter from Thomas Marriott, Clerk to the Guardians of the Southwell Union, to the Poor Law Commission, regarding the medical attendance arrangements within the Southwell Union and resolutions made at the guardians meeting.
It was resolved that the 3rd District was formed originally with every attention to sick poor with the population of whole district being under 6000. The medical officer resides at Ollerton which is nearly the centre of his district. He then gives the distance in miles from Ollerton to Maplebeck, Bilsthorpe, Clipstone, Eakring, Kersall, Kneesal, Budy, Kirton, Walesby, Ompton, Rufford, Boughton and Edwinstowe, Wellow and Perlethorpe. 20,000 acres having few or no inhabitants in the district.
He points out that the area of parishes taken from Whites history of Nottinghamshire is incorrect; the overseers will be approached to supply correct acreage of each parish. There are no complaints made to the board of guardians with respect to medical attendance in this district since the formation of the union.
A committee will be appointed to consider the arrangements of districts and salaries to be offered for the ensuing year. All other points which may arise Committee to report to the board at meeting of November 14 1842.
The committee will consist William Barrow, Major Warrand, William Leacroft, William Gregory, S Hole, Richard Parkinson, Matthew Jackson, William Neep, Joseph Leeson, Thomas Hind and Samuel Curtis.
