Folio 256. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission, to Thomas Marriott, Clerk to the Guardians of the Southwell Union, acknowledging the request from the Wellow parish officers for permission to appropriate their quota from the sale of the workhouse, lately the property of the Thurgarton Incorporation to the payment of current expenses of the Southwell Union. However, the money cannot be legally applied in this way as it is deemed not to be of permanent value to the parish. There is a note stating that an order of 22 July 1840 directs that £13:6:5 is to be invested by the parish.
