From: George Bailey, Clerk to the Luton Local Board, Luton [Bedfordshire].

Subject Matter: Letter referring to the proposed of purchasing a block of old buildings and a dilapidated market house to erect a Corn Exchange, and certain public buildings within this district. Bailey explains that as the fairs, tolls and stallages have been leased to the Local Board for 75 years, a large profit will arise from this, and they therefore wish to increase and improve the accommodation necessary for the farmers, purchasers and general public frequenting the markets. He enquires as to what can be done to purchase this land with regards to the plans of the buildings, the cost and the Local Board's borrowing powers.
