Description:

Folio 95: Richard Hale, Clerk of the Cheque, Sheerness Dockyard. He has received orders to remove the 'R' from Joseph Hornsby and John Jackson of the Play Prize. Has done so for Joseph Hornsby, but John Jackson has never appeared. The Captain of the Play Prize claims that Johnson has been with him, but he has not appeared at the muster and the Captain now claims that he is sick in Newcastle. He will remove the 'R' from Thomas Hodges of the Kingfisher if he returns to the ship. He understands from Chatham that all deserters that return to their ships are to have the 'R' removed.
