Description: |
Folio 188. To: The Home Secretary. From: Sam Hale, 3 Alma Place, Eastbourne [Sussex]. Letter enquiring as to what proportion of votes is required to carry the proposition to adopt the Local Government Act 1858. Hale explains that a large majority in Eastbourne rejected the measure in Vestry, but that a poll was demanded - 'the opponents think it never was intended by a bare or small majority of votes to saddle a parish with so important a measure'. |
