Description:

Folios 252-253.

To: The Local Government Act Office.

From: Butler and Smith, Solicitors to the Idle Local Board, 17 East Parade, Leeds, [Yorkshire].

A letter informing the Office that the Idle Local Board are sure they can prove in any inquiry the Office might stage that the Calverley District Water Company's plans to supply water to the Idle Board's District will not be able to effectually supply water to the whole of that District, and that the Idle Board's plans for water works are by far the most effectual and cost effective means of obtaining Idle a water supply. Butler and Smith have been given to understand that the Office no longer send inspectors to inquire into such matters, and if this is the case they however asks the Office to write to the Water Company and the Bradford Corporation requesting that they, along with the Idle Board appoint a mediator for the dispute between the parties. Butler and Smith inform the Office that the Water Company have already begun, without the Idle Board's permission, depositing pieces of pipes next to Idle highways, with the intention of laying them in the future.
