Prisoner names: William Adams and Nathaniel Hale. Court and date of trial: Adams: Surrey Lent Assizes March 1838. Hale: Central Criminal Court July 1837. Crime: Adams: Offence against the Game Laws. Hale: [Accessory to having plates for forging Polish notes.]. Initial sentence: Adams: one year's imprisonment [with hard labour]. Hale: two years' imprisonment [with hard labour]. Annotated: 'Remission and Answered 24 December 1838.' Other papers: Letter from Visiting Magistrates, Chairman and [illegible], enclosing a medical certificate from [J H Taylor], surgeon, stating Adams and Hale have pulmonary disease. Letter from three Visiting Magistrates, Guildford House of Correction [Surrey] enclosing a further medical certificate from [J H Taylor] on the failing health of Adams and Hale. |
