Description:

Petition from the HM's servants of the timber hoys addressed to the Commissioner. They have been denied a time-honoured premium from Masters of the Teams for bringing timber to the hoys. At Blakes'dock the timber is brought to the side of the vessels by the Master of the Teams. But at Bridge Green and Hythe, timber is left short of the vessels and the Hoymen are put to extra trouble in carting timber onward and thereby denied reward by Mr. Cull. 30th July 1730 Mr. Sutherland is delegated by the Commissioner to report impartially on the Petition. 5th August 1730 Mr. Sutherland responds by comparing his experience of 1713 at Beaulieu and Wotton Coppice. Opine the Carters are nothing to do with the dispute. 12th August Commissioner is agreeable to the payments. 17th August 1730 Mr. Sutherland in sympathy. 20th August 1730 the Commissioner asks Mr. Sutherland to consider further the Equity of Pretensions of both sides. 29th August 1730 Mr. Sutherland opines that he is unable to decide if payments should be made. But says that if it is for the King's business then they ought to be paid.
