Description:

Folio 292. Letter from Doctor Vincent [James Vincent] to the Poor Law Board, setting out his reason for making changes to the dietary plan for the sick inmates in the workhouse. From the complaints made to him he is concerned the quantity of bread, butter and meat allowed is insufficient and Vincent was anxious to prevent the diseases of anaemia and scrofula amongst the infirm and imbecile patients. He therefore made adjustments to the diet without reference to the guardians as he was under the impression he was solely responsible for these arrangements to the Board. However, he had drawn up the revised plan in the presence of the acting master of the workhouse [Joseph Horne].
Annotated: see the minutes of 16 June 1868 [25656/1868] referring to Consolidated Order 207 No 4. 19 June 1868.
Annotated: send copy of Vincent's letter to the guardians and ask whether the dietary has been entered in the workhouse medical officer's Relief Book. 25 June 1868.
