de Balfada, John |
Council. |
John de Balfada, esquire, son of the late castellan of Bourg, makes three requests:1) He states that he and his late father were twice captured in the wars in Guyenne, and because of this lost all their loan (chevance) and sold most of their inheritance. He asks that he might have the castellany of Bourg for term of life, as his father held it.2) He also states that the Prince gave his father £300 annually, of the coin in use in Aquitaine, from the petty custom of Bordeaux, and asks the king to confirm this gift to him.3) He states that John Harpedene, then Seneschal of Saintonge, gave him the keeping of Moleu, which he has held for four years with men-at-arms and archers at his own expense, and asks the king to aid and relieve his great costs and expenses. |
