Content:
Folio 124. Letter from Joseph Thompson, Kirton, to the Poor Law Board, referring to his letter of 1 May 1856, which suggested his query over land for the poor be referred to the Charity Commissioners. As a result, the land was let as gardens for the poor. However, now Thompson is enquiring about a piece of land allotted to Kirton at the time of enclosure in 1823, which the overseers of the poor are trustees for. He complains that on Lady Day, the overseers let the land to George Wass, blacksmith at Kirton, for £6 per year; he thinks if properly let to a farmer it would raise £12. He questions the letting of the land to a blacksmith. He also adds that since the land has not been valued since 1823, it is time of a revaluation.
