1 individual petition (the prisoner) from Robert Richardson convicted at 'Deal Sessions' [Kent] in July 1823 for embezzlement from Mr J W Russell, linen draper the prisoner's employer. The prisoner is held in the gaol of Deal. There is a letter from Montague Pennington in support of prisoner and criticising conditions in the gaol. Grounds for clemency: the prosecutor recommends mercy, the prisoner has compensated the prosecutor, the prisoner is of previous good character, has been confined 9 months, accustomed to 'an active life', has an anxiety of mind, will not be able to gain future employment if not released soon as he is 37 years old and the prisoner has served half his sentence and shows contrition. Initial sentence: 18 months imprisonment. Annotated: 'May 1 1824, Refused'. Fk32 |
