Details of SC 8/338/E1257
Reference: SC 8/338/E1257
Description:
Petitioners: Proctors of Guillaume de Fluvian, son and heir of Guillaume Fluvian, banneret of Catalonia.
Addressees: King.
Nature of request: The proctors request that the grace that the king will do to Fluvian be done in a manner that they are able to take to Catalonia to discharge the alms of Guillaume de Fluvian the father, and to deliver the son and his lands from the debts incurred. The father came to England and served in Scotland where he was killed, and he incurred great debts which were demanded from him. At the end of the Scottish War when the king was at Burstwick, for the service of the father, the son and heir was promised 1,000 marks sterling, the 26 of November in the 33rd year of the king's reign, but the proctors have received very little of this.
Nature of endorsement: They should wait until the treasurer comes, and he will ordain payment.
Places mentioned: Catalonia, [Spain]; Gascony, [France]; Scotland; Burstwick, [East Riding of Yorkshire]; London.
People mentioned: Guillaume Fluvian, banneret of Catalonia; Guillaume [de Fluvian], son and heir of Guillaume Fluvian, banneret of Catalonia; Arnaud de Fluviati; Arnaud Fictour; Pierre de Bygnau, attorney and proctor of Guillaume de Fluvian; Guillaume de la Gaske, attorney and proctor of Guillaume de Fluvian; John de Bretaigne; James de la Ryt.
Note: The petition is dated to 1305-1306 as this petition seems to be part of an original file of Gascon petitions - SC 8/338/E1217-SC 8/338/E1260 - for which SC 8/338/E1228 seems to have been the cover petition. The dating of this group of documents is arrived at by the possibility of more closely dating several of the petitions in this group, and these are noted when necessary. In addition, almost all of the petitions bear the old PRO references to Diplomatic Documents 1542 and 1548. The petition probably dates more closely to 1305-1307 as the petition seems likely to postdate an entry in the Gascon Rolls by which the provision referred to in the petition was made (Roles Gascons, vol. III, no. 4648 (30)). In addition, a mandate was issued to pay the proctors on 22 July 1306 (CPR 1301-7, p. 458).
Date: [1305-1306]
Related material:

The petition belongs to a probable original file consisting of SC 8/338/E1217- SC 8/338/E1260 of which SC 8/338/E1228 was probably the cover petition judging from its endorsement, see SC 8/338/E1228
