Details of SC 8/338/E1251
Reference: SC 8/338/E1251
Description:
Petitioners: Jean de Seint Pere (St Pierre).
Name(s): de Seint Pere (St Pierre), Jean
Addressees: King and council.
Nature of request: Seint Pere requests that a warrant is given to arrest three letters sealed by the earl of Lincoln in whosoever hands they will be found until right can be had. Whereas Sorde, who is dead, was held and his executors still are held to the petitioner in gages by reason of a debt whereof the petitioner became a pledge for another man by three letters patent under the seal of the earl, the which debt is paid as the petitioner is able to establish by good people of Gascony.
Nature of endorsement: He should sue by the common law.
Places mentioned: Gascony, [France].
People mentioned: Raymond de Sorde (Sordes); [Henry de Lacy], Earl of Lincoln.
Note: The petition is dated to 1305-1306 as this petition seems to be part of an original file of Gascon petitions - SC 8/338/E1217-SC 8/338/E1260 - for which SC 8/338/E1228 seems to have been the cover petition. The dating of this group of documents is arrived at by the possibility of more closely dating several of the petitions in this group, and these are noted when necessary. In addition, almost all of the petitions bear the old PRO references to Diplomatic Documents 1542 and 1548.
Date: [1305-1306]
Related material:

The petition belongs to a probable original file consisting of SC 8/338/E1217- SC 8/338/E1260 of which SC 8/338/E1228 was probably the cover petition judging from its endorsement, see SC 8/338/E1228
