Details of SC 8/310/15484
Reference: SC 8/310/15484
Description:
Petitioners: Richard Talbot, son of Gilbert Talbot, and Elizabeth Talbot, his wife.
Name(s): Talbot; Talbot, Richard; Elizabeth
Addressees: King and Council.
Nature of request: The petitioners request remedy regarding the sale of the manors of Painswick and Castle Goodrich to the Despensers by Elizabeth, stating that they have sued to bring before the council transcripts of the feet of two fines concerning these sales, which were forced from Elizabeth when she was imprisoned at Purfrith. She was also forced to make recognisance of these fines before Bousser, as is found by an inquisition held before Stonor and his fellows, and now returned into Chancery. They ask that the inquest be viewed, and right be done.
Nature of endorsement: It is agreed in the general response that the king named and assigned bishops, earls and barons to make execution of the statute, and to sue for this.
Places mentioned: Painswick, [Gloucestershire]; Castle Goodrich (Goodrich), [Herefordshire]; Purfrith (Purbright), [Surrey].
People mentioned: Gilbert Talbot, father of the petitioner; Hugh le Despenser, the father; Hugh le Despenser, the son; John de Bousser, justice; John de Stonor, justice.
Note: Dated by Rot. Parl, II, p.22 to 1328, and by Rees to 1330-1. However, a pardon of recognisances made to the Despensers (probably those mentioned here) was granted to Elizabeth on 27 October 1330, suggesting that the 1328 date is most likely.
Date: [? 1328]
