Note: Inquisition and return: Date to be returned: 30/04/1514. Attached is the inquisition made at Leicester on 18/03/1514 before Edward Ferrers, Sheriff. Nicholas Gryffin was seised in demesne of: the Manors of Gumley {Gomondley}, Foxton, Smeeton, and Langton [all in Gartree Hundred, Leics.], and 20 messuages, 14 tofts, 40 acres of land, 100 acres of meadow, 100 acres of pasture, and 60 acres of woodland there: all areenfeoffed to John Muscote, Ralph Lane, John Watts {Wattys}, Maurice Osborne {Osbern}, and William Lane, gentlemen, to the use of Nicholas and his heirs. The property is worth 40m. a year after expenses. The jury say that Nicholas Griffin died on 01/05/1509. At the time of the inquisition he had no other property or goods and chattels.
