Description:
Petitioners: Prior and Convent of Tortington.
Addressees: King.
Nature of request: The Prior and Convent of Tortington request the confirmation of their possession of a house and appurtenances in London and the advowson of the church of St Swithin in Candlewick Street, granted to them by Agwylon in the time of Edward I. These were taken into the hands of Edward III after it was adjudged that the gift breached the statute of mortmain, and were granted to the Earl of Arundel, but he and his son have re-granted possession to the Prior.
