Details of SC 8/150/7486
Reference: SC 8/150/7486
Description:
Petitioners: Alien weavers and clothworkers.
Addressees: Duke of Gloucester, Lieutenant and Guardian of England.
Occupation: Alien weavers and clothworkers
Nature of request: The alien weavers and clothworkers state that they have been able, by charter of Edward III, renewed by all kings since then, to practice their craft in London and in other towns and cities in England, and that they have done so peacefully until now, in the King's absence, when they are harassed by Richard Herbert, Ralph Bukberd, William Cokenage, John Staunford, William Fissher, John Bulsore and other English weavers, so that they cannot practice their craft as they used to. They ask the Duke to have pity on their losses and sufferings, and with the advice of the other lords in parliament, to make some ordinance to permit them to work as they used to and as their charter requires.
Nature of endorsement: [On face] Delivered by the Guardian of England, 10 December.[None on dorse]
Places mentioned: London.

Note: Datable to the parliament of December 1420, with reference to SC 8/150/7485, and to the address to the Duke of Gloucester, who presided over this parliament in his brother's absence in France.
