Details of SC 8/150/7478
Reference: SC 8/150/7478
Description:
Petitioners: Alexander de la Worth.
Name(s): Worth, Alexander
Addressees: King and council.
Nature of request: Alexander de la Worth states that in the King's father's sixth year, John de Excestre, Treasurer of the church of St Peter of Exeter, purchased 2 marks of rent issuing from tenements held in villeinage in Downton in Hampshire, and that he died seised of this rent and his right in it descended to his sister, Emma, and then to her son, Alexander. But because the tenements from which the rent came were held of the manor of Christchurch, they were taken into the King's father's hand after John's death, and has remained in the King's hand until now, because Emma never sued for it, and Alexander has not sued until now. He requests a remedy.
Nature of endorsement: He is to declare in Chancery if he has any evidence for the King's permission, and whether he has or not, justice is to be done to the complainant there.
Places mentioned: Exeter, [Devon]; Donkerton (Downton), Hampshire; Christchurch, [Hampshire].
People mentioned: John de Excestre (Exeter), Treasurer of the church of St Peter of Exeter; John de la Leye; Denise [de la Leye], wife of John de la Leye; Sarah de Coreham, sister of Denise de la Leye; Edward [I], King of England; Emma [de Excestre (Exeter)], sister and heir of John de Excestre (Exeter).
Note: From the content this petition is clearly from the reign of Edward II, and from the hand and language quite possibly from c. 1324, like many others in this file.
Date: [? c. 1324]
