Description:
Petitioners: Joan de Fryvill (Freville), widow of Alexander de Freville.
Name(s): de Fryvill (Freville), Joan
Addressees: King and council.
Nature of request: Joan, widow of Alexander de Fryvill, states that she and her husband held, of her inheritance, the castle of Tamworth, with the advowson of the deanery and prebends of the church of Tamworth, and that, by fine levied in the court of the king's father and by his charter of permission, they granted the castle and advowsons to Baldwin, their son and heir, retaining to themselves estate for term of life. After Alexander's death, she presented to the vacant deanery, but was prevented by the king, who had made his own presentation to that church because of Alexander's lands and tenements being in his hand, in ignorance of the feoffment. She requests that the king order the Chancellor that, when he has seen the tenor of the fine and the charter of permission, he have the king's presentation repealed.
Nature of endorsement: She is to sue a writ for the king, and justice is to be done to her.
Places mentioned: Tamworth, [Staffordshire].
People mentioned: Alexander de Fryvill (Freville), late husband of petitioner; Baldwin [de Fryvill (Freville)], son of petitioner.
Note: CPR 1327-30 p.301 is dated at Evesham, 22 June 1328. This must be the presentation about which the petitioner is complaining: so the petition probably dates to the second half of 1328.CCR 1327-30 p.278 is dated at Northampton, 3 May 1328, so is clearly not a result of this petition, although CCR 1327-30 p.313, dated at Clipstone, 25 August 1328, may perhaps be related.
