Description:

Marlborough to Prince Eugene of Savoy: he commiserates with the misfortune of the army, but is encouraged by Eugene's letter from Rovereto. He is pressing the states [general] to send 20,000 men, and wished to accompany them, but the prince of Baden's retreat has prevented that. He has, however, obtained 10,000 men for Italy on condition that he remains [in the low countries], and will despatch them as soon as possible. He has written to the emperor [Joseph I] to ask him to appoint a good general as Eugene's second in command. Dated at The Hague. ff. 407, 408
