Administrative / biographical background: |
The Economic and Industrial Planning Staff (EIPS) was set up in April 1944 as an inter-departmental standing committee responsible to the foreign secretary, to formulate and co-ordinate economic and industrial policy towards Germany. Italy and the axis satellite powers were added to its brief later in 1944, and the Far East after the end of the war in Europe. The chairman and secretariat came from the Economic Advisory Branch of the Foreign Office. The work of the EIPS in respect of Germany and Austria passed to the Control Office for Germany and Austria at the end of 1945, leaving the EIPS (Far Eastern) associated with the Economic Intelligence, Economic Warfare and Far Eastern Economic Departments of the Foreign Office. |
