Description:

The files in this series mainly originate from the period 1965 to 1969 although material created by successor departments is also included. The files include copies of papers of the East Anglia Economic Planning Council and the East Anglia Economic Planning Board and files arising from their activities. Subjects covered include railway closures and grants, experimental cartography, leisure amenities, population distribution and the proposed Wash barrage Scheme. There are also some files on the implications for East Anglia of the proposals of the Committee on Intermediate Areas (Hunt Committee).

Selection and destruction information: A flood in Dec 1984 in the basement of the Department of the Environment Records Office destroyed a number of files. It was not possible to ascertain their references.

The East Anglia regional office was set up in 1965. The Chairperson of the East Anglia Economic Planning Council was Sir Kenneth Keith.

The regional office was situated in London and shared its accommodation and also some of it clerical staff with the South East Regional Office.
