Charity Commission and Board of Education correspondence and papers relating to the administration of endowments and scholarships at universities and colleges and in the field of higher education generally. The earlier records comprise Charity Commission papers (otherwise in CHAR) relating solely to educational endowments transferred to the department under the Board of Education Act, 1899. The files retained their Charity Commission reference numbers but were also stamped with the university, college or foundation number used by the board. Subsequent records are in the Board of Education Series. In a few cases the Charity Commission papers are included in the lists for a later period. |
