Description:

The trenches before York. Articles of capitulation settled between His Excellency General Washington ... the Count de Rochambeau ... and ... the Count de Grasse ... on the one part and ... Earl Cornwallis ... and Thomas Symonds, Esq ... on the other part. The 14 articles are in a column on the left hand side of the pages and beside them are notations that articles are accepted as they stand, or qualified, or rejected. The original, signed by Cornwallis, Symonds, Washington, Rochambeau, and de Barras, for himself and de Grasse. This may have been Cornwallis’s own copy of the agreement at the time of surrender.
