Title: Palatinate of Durham: Exchequer: Auditor's Records
Description:

This series, a mix of rolls, files, books and papers or parchments, represents a remnant of the records from the Auditor's Office in the Durham Exchequer. It consists of rolls of sheriffs' accounts, 1335-1625; rolls of escheators' accounts 1488-1489 and 1560-1562; bundles of estreats, that is extracts of court records, five of them from halmotes (the bishops' manorial courts), 1577-1774, the rest from quarter sessions or assizes; bundles of auditors' vouchers 1401-1798, including some receiver generals' accounts, rentals, presentments, receipts, allowances and other accounts; and two bundles of miscellanea c1450-1832, much of which is of little relevance to the episcopal audit and more pertinent to episcopal administration. Many records, up to the sixteenth century, are dated by pontifical date, that is yearly from the consecration of each bishop
